Interreligious Studies

Course Description

This course provides students with an understanding of the main world religions, their beliefs, traditions, practices, and values. It explores the importance of interreligious relations in today’s diverse society, encouraging respect, tolerance, and appreciation of different faiths. Students will examine similarities and differences between religious traditions and the role of dialogue in promoting peaceful coexistence. The course aims to develop openness, mutual understanding, and the ability to engage respectfully within multicultural and multireligious communities.

 

Course Objectives

The learner will be able to:

  • understand the basic principles of the main world religions
  • facilitate relationships between people belonging to different religions
  • guide and encourage common objectives in relational growth
  • understand the differences between faith, religion and revelation
  • assimilate the conciliar and post-conciliar Church’s attitude towards the world
    main religions
  • describe the efforts of the Catholic Church to promote inter-religious
    cooperation
  • promote practical skills to achieve the common good

 

Target Group

The course is aimed primarily at individuals interested in gaining knowledge or
strengthening their personal basic skills regarding the main world religions with a
specific attention to the Interreligious aspect. These might be educators who teach
religious knowledge to students from the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of
education, catechists who deliver religious formation to all ages and activities in the
various parishes.
