Fr Joseph Farrugia

Safeguarding of Minors lecturer

Joseph Farrugia was ordained priest for the Diocese of Gozo in the year 2000. He specialized in Moral Theology at Academia Alfonsiana (Rome) and in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology of the Gregorian University (Rome). Fr. Joseph received further training in Safeguarding of Minors at the Centre of Child Protection of the Gregorian University (Rome). He is a warranted Clinical Psychologist and leads the Diocesan Family Counselling Centre at Ta’ Pinu. Apart from being engaged in psychotherapy, Fr Joseph lectures at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary and at the University of Malta. He offers spiritual companionship and supervision to priests and religious. His main research interests are professional ethics, human and spiritual formation, protection of minors and interdisciplinary psychology.

Fr Giovanni Curmi

Inclusion and Integration of Vulnerable People in the Community coordinator

Giovanni Curmi was ordained priest for the Diocese of Gozo in 1991. He served in Rome from 1991 to early 1996, where he studied pastoral theology at the Lateran Pontifical University. He received his Masters in Youth Ministry from the University of Malta in 2015. He has lectured at the Major Seminary in Gozo, focusing on the Theology of the People, characteristic of the Pontificate of Pope Francis.

Fr Ignatius Borg

Litugical Formation lecturer

Ignatius Borg was ordained priest for the Diocese of Gozo in 1985. He studied theology specializing in Sacred Liturgy and Pastoral Theology in Rome. He obtained an M.A. in Pastoral Theology from Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, diploma in Christian Archeology from Pontificio Istituto di Arceologia Cristiana, diploma in Mariology from Pontificia Facolta’ Teologica Marianum, degree in Sacred Liturgy from Pontificio Ateneo Sant’Anselmo and Ecclesiology from Pontifical Lateran University. He is the Delegate of Liturgy for the Diocese of Gozo, a Lecturer in Sacred Liturgy at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Gozo and a member of the Interdiocesan Commission for Sacred Liturgy.

Fr Joseph Sultana

Biblical Formation lecturer

Joseph Sultana was ordained priest for the Diocese of Gozo in 2001. He acquired  his license in Biblical Sciences from the Pontifical Biblical Institute and a Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He is the Archpriest of the Gozo Cathedral and a Lecturer in Scripture Studies at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Gozo.

H.L. Anton Teuma

Psychodynamics of Family Relationships lecturer

Anton Teuma was ordained priest for the Diocese of Gozo in 1988. At the Salesian Pontifical University, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences and his Masters degree in Pedagogical Methodology. In 1997 he was appointed Rector of the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Gozo, a role he served up till 2007. Fr Anton obtained a Diploma in Biblical Formation from the Franciscan Biblical Institute of Jerusalem (2008), completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sciences of Formation at the Institute for Formators within the Institute of Psychology of the Pontifical Gregorian University (2016) and was granted a post-graduate diploma in Systemic Family Psychotherapy at the Institute of Family Therapy, Malta (2018).

On 17 June 2020, H.H. Pope Francis appointed Fr Anton Teuma as the ninth Bishop of Gozo. He received his Episcopal Consecration at the hands of his predecessor Bishop Mario Grech, now Cardinal, at the Rotunda of St John the Baptist, Xewkija, on 21 August of the same year.
